This is a rare, “new” unused, signed, first printing of the first edition (paperback) of Dr. Spence’s book Treasures of the Confederate Coast: The real Rhett Butler & other Revelations.
Over 500 pages. Has individual chapters about Dr. Spence’s discoveries of the Civil War submarine Hunley, the Confederate “privateer” Georgiana, and the identity of the “real Rhett Butler.” This is an excellent book for reference or pleasure.
The bulk of the book consists of chronologically & geographically arranged entries giving detailed historical information (complete with references) on literally hundreds of individual Civil War era shipwrecks (many yet to be discovered and salvaged) in the waters of North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia. There are over one hundred B&W illustrations (maps, photos, prints).
The cover of this book changed after the first printing, which is how you can distinguish this copy from later printings. Although there is no indication on Amazon of which printing, a copy of this book in “used-like new” condition is currently being offered by another seller on Amazon.com for over $75.00 and other copies of the first printing have been sold to collectors at considerably higher prices. Dr. Spence has a very limited number of these copies left, so if you are a collector buy now.
Copies of the second printing are available on this site for just $19.95. They are not as rare, but they are still collectible.
