Pre-Columbian copper death mask with crown by native American $1,650.00

Pre-Columbian copper death mask with ear pieces and crown.

This handmade, copper, death mask is of a type that would have belonged to someone of relatively high social or religious rank in pre-Columbian Central and South America. Death masks were used by both the Mayans and the Incas to preserve the appearance of the dead. Note the large ear pieces and the crown with adornments. It has only been lightly cleaned and still retains traces of dried mud. It has a heavy green patina, with red copper showing through in a few places.

Dr. Spence believes this to be well over 500 years old.
