In an effort to both encourage and recognize participation and donations, all members (regardless of whether individual or corporate) will receive rank based on the values of their annual contributions. Contributions may be accepted in the form of money, goods (including boats and equipment), or services (including dockage). Although ranks are strictly honorary, additional perks or other advantages will go with the higher levels. Some of those benefits are described below. Each level of membership will be entitled to all of the benefits shown for each of the lesser memberships levels. If membership at the Benefactors level or higher is obtained in a corporate name, the associated benefits may be designated to an individual and in some cases to multiple individuals. Members will be entitled to one free patch for each year of their membership. Patches for Benefactors, Patrons and Sponsors will show their rank and the year of issue.
Facebook Members
There is no fee to join Sea Research Society through its Facebook page. Facebook Members may purchase a special Society’s membership patch for $10, but have no other special privileges.

All of the following are paid memberships and are for one year:
Supporters
Supporters will receive the standard membership patch, a membership card showing the members rank and giving them a 10% discount on all Society’s admission fees, usage fees and list price of Society store items. They will also receive a membership certificate (showing their rank and suitable for framing) and access to the Society’s monthly online newsletter, “Wreck Diver.”
Benefactors
Benefactors will receive all of the above benefits and will also receive, when it is in place, have access to the Society’s online library. Patches for the rank of Lt. Commander and higher, will show the rank and the appropriate membership year.
Patrons
Patrons will receive all of the above benefits and will also receive free copies of the annual expedition reports (for that year) and will have their names listed in the Society’s online quarterly journal (“International Journal of the Sea Research Society”). Patrons will be furnished an official Sea Research Society pennant showing their rank and the membership year. They will also receive free membership in the Society’s Undersea Explorers Club and will be invited to participate in some of the Society’s expeditions. (Note: Additional fees may be charged for participation in certain expeditions.)
Sponsors
Sponsors will receive all of the above benefits and will be invited to and introduced as a sponsor at all official Society functions. They will also receive special recognition via mentions in the Society’s journal and newsletter. Corporate Sponsors will also be able to use the Society’s name and logo in approved advertisements.
Note One: A single $12,000 donation can make a person a Rear Admiral for one year, or it could give them the rank of Captain for four years, their choice.
